Matthieu began his career as a Lighting TD at ExMachina, Industrial Light & Magic, Pacific Data Images, DreamWorks Animation, Mac Guff, Attitude Studio, Dwarf Labs, and Tu Nous ZA Pas Vus Productions. He then turned to teaching Lighting, Compositing, and Photography at several schools, including MOPA, Ynov, and Ecole des Nouvelles Images.
